This Calgary banister painting project featured a complete refinishing of a large two-storey oak stair railing located at the centre of the home’s entryway. The homeowners wanted to modernize the look of their existing banister while still keeping the classic two-tone design.

Using professional spray coatings and detailed preparation methods, our team transformed the dated stained wood railing into a bold, contemporary feature that immediately elevates the space when you walk through the front door.

Project Details

The original banister featured an older brown wood stain that no longer matched the updated style the homeowners wanted for their home. Because the staircase was one of the first things seen upon entering the house, the goal was to create a cleaner, more modern focal point while maintaining warmth and character.

Our team carefully prepared every surface before refinishing began. This process included:

• Detailed sanding of all wood surfaces
• Surface cleaning and preparation
• Priming for proper adhesion and durability
• Filling and repairing imperfections
• Professional spray application for a smooth finish

The project was completed in two parts.

First, the rails, runners, and posts were refinished in Black Fire, one of our custom in-house favourites. This rich, dramatic dark tone added contrast, depth, and a modern upscale appearance to the staircase.

Next, the spindles were refinished in a colour-matched white to refresh the existing two-tone design and brighten the overall look of the space.

The combination of the deep dark rails and crisp white spindles created a timeless modern contrast that completely transformed the home’s main entry area.
